One of the most meaningful parts of my work has always been helping clients navigate not just real estate decisions, but life decisions.
Because choosing where and how you live is rarely just about square footage or market timing. It’s about your next chapter, your daily lifestyle, your sense of home, and the community that surrounds you.
A story from the past year perfectly illustrates this:
Last April, longtime client and well-known Fort Wayne jeweler Brad Gough called me during the most difficult time of his life. After losing his beloved wife, Stephanie, to a recurrence of cancer, Brad found himself facing an incredibly personal decision. He had heard the common advice, “Don’t make any major changes for a year after losing a spouse.” That advice can certainly be wise. But every situation and every person is different.
Brad shared that while the southwest Fort Wayne home he and Stephanie had loved held many wonderful memories, it had also become a painful daily reminder of his loss. Staying there wasn’t helping him heal.
So rather than applying generic advice, we stepped back and looked at the bigger picture.
What kind of life did Brad want now? What environment would support healing, family connection, and a fresh chapter?
Together, we mapped out a broader lifestyle strategy. Brad decided to purchase a lake home where he could create joyful new memories with his children and grandchildren.
At the same time, I suggested something less conventional: rather than rushing into another permanent primary residence, why not simplify for a year and try a luxury lease downtown?
I personally toured The Pearl with Brad, explored the amenities, and helped him evaluate whether that environment fit the life he envisioned. It did. Today, he couldn’t be happier.
“There is a real sense of community here at The Pearl. The concierge staff creates wonderful events that bring residents together. Stephanie and I truly enjoyed our home in southwest Fort Wayne, which Lynn and her team helped us purchase years ago. But I felt ready for a change, and I’ve fully embraced the vibrancy of downtown Fort Wayne. Lynn Reecer and her team understand that real estate decisions are deeply personal. Their perspective goes far beyond simply buying or selling property.” - Brad Gough
Stories like Brad’s are why I often say:
I’m not simply helping clients buy and sell homes. I help them think strategically about how they want to live.
-Sometimes that means selling.
-Sometimes buying.
-Sometimes leasing.
-Sometimes staying exactly where you are—but reimagining how you live there.
Because your home isn’t just real estate, it’s your lifestyle strategy.
And equally important? The community around it.
If you or your friends or family are contemplating a transition, whether prompted by retirement, family changes, a desire to simplify, or simply a feeling that your current chapter no longer fits, I’d be honored to help you think through the possibilities.
